Some may call me crazy, but I thought it was a fabulous idea to pack my two boys, hubby, my mom, and myself into the minivan for the 28 hour car trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma! When my brother made the AA All Stars for baseball, I knew I needed to see him in that capacity and wanted the boys to see him. My little brother is truly someone I look up to! He constantly shows his dedication, hard work ethic, perseverance, love, kindness, and passion; but most of all he’s an amazing role model and uncle to my boys! So when he made the team and couldn’t come home for his birthday or break, I decided that we needed to go see him…anyways how could hubby say no when I asked him for the trip as my birthday present!!!!
On Tuesday morning at 8:15 am we packed the car and everyone in to start the trip. I began driving… Connecticut…New York…both short drives to get through….and then Pennsylvania. Man oh man, what a beautiful green state of forests, but boring to drive through and probably one of the largest stretches of drives; but they do have the nicest rest stops. Luckily, my Mom decided to drive for part of Pennsylvania and then I took over again. (Hubby slept since he had worked that night and got off at 7am!)
Once we got through Pennsylvania, we crossed into Ohio. Ohio had a lot of flat grounds and farms.
We stopped for dinner and Neal took over driving. CJ said it was smelly since the farms smelled of manure. I was grateful that Neal is used to be up at night and drove through the night.
Through Indiana, Missouri, and then into Oklahoma! Hubby rocks! I slept and took care of the boys. I was woken up to see St. Louis at night, which was gorgeous! Once morning hit, I took over driving and drove the rest of the way to Tulsa! We arrived Wednesday late morning, early afternoon. Just in time for my little brother’s birthday!!! Wooohooo!!! That first night we went out to dinner to celebrate at this small bbq place that was delicious! I had a great beef brisket sandwich, fried pickles, mac and cheese, and bites of everything else! Yummy! We had great food, good beer, and great company!!! The best way to spend my brother’s birthday was with him!
After dinner we hung out and took the boys to the pool to waste some energy before bed. After all, they spent 28 hours in the car and needed to blow off some steam. During this time I couldn’t stop giving my brother a hard time about his haircut…hahaha….what are older sisters for?
The next day we decided to go to the aquarium in Oklahoma, seemed strange…an aquarium in Oklahoma. It was actually really cool. They had a lot of great exhibits and tied it into the history of Oklahoma (local wildlife). CJ got to feed turtles, stingrays, and fish. Plus touch sharks!!! The boys even got to see how they measured up the the state record for the gar fish!!! We all had a blast!!!!
Later that day was the All Star Game!!! I was so proud to see my brother in that capacity and CJ was so excited to see his Uncle Zach play baseball!!!! The opening star spangled banner was even preformed by Hanson – yes Mmmm bop! During the game we were even spot lighted on the screen when Cal was compared to baby Stewie from the Family Guy. Afterwards, we enjoyed a great fireworks show and Cal loved it too! It was a great first part of our trip!!!
