Okay so I am jumping on the bandwagon of reviewing 2013 and listing the top 10 things from this past year….it sure has been a wonderful and crazy whirlwind of a year!!!
10. My sister passing all of her CPA exams and my brother doing well in baseball! I always find joy in my families success and love embracing it!!!
9. All of our family dinners – these are times you can’t get back and are precious to spend with family!
8. Getting a new kitten for our boys, Belle – what a crazy little cat but perfect for the boys!
7. Soccer, swim lessons, and t-ball !!!!
6. Neal and I celebrated 7 years of marriage and look forward to many more! This year has really shown what we are made of and how much love our marriage has!
5. Our boys turning 5 and 2! They fight and then the next minute love playing with each other and are best friends! This is an amazing journey to watch.
4. Trips with our boys to Maine and Sesame Place!!!
3. Early detection of cancer and combatting it head on right from the start….thankful that my doctor caught the abnormalities on my thyroid during an appointment during the early pregnancy. Thankful for great doctors and a strong team behind me!
2. Finding out we were pregnant with baby #3 and it’s a girl! So excited that we will be adding a princess to our family. Thankful for her being mommy’s miracle!
1. The love and support from friends and family!!!! I couldn’t have gotten through the last 4 months with them and continue to embrace their love and support more than ever! I always knew I had such an amazing group behind our family and have always appreciated it, but value it more than ever.
So I realize it has been a very long time since my last post, but I have been going through extreme ups and downs of emotions and experiences during these past few months and felt it was more appropriate to 100% focus on family to get me through these times. I also decided that taking a longer break from various outside things was also needed during this time. Right now, I won’t share what it has been that I’ve been going through, but at some point I will. Just know that when life gave me lemons I have been doing my best to make lemonade!
More posts to come!!!!
So this summer I took a blogging hiatus….pretty much a hiatus from anything besides my boys. At the end of the school year, I vowed to spend as much time with my boys as I possibly could. I have truly been living up to that and loving that being a teacher gives me summers off. It definitely doesn’t mean that I work less, because you can ask my 5 year old and he’ll tell you “Mommy works too much.” But it does give me a chance to have my career and be a 3 month out of the year stay at home mommy. With the boys being 5 and 2, this summer has been extra special.
We have done a lot….. Roger Williams Zoo, Sesame Place, The Maryland Zoo, Connecticut Science Center, swim lessons, many pool dates at my parent’s house, numerous cook outs and parties, plus much more!!! I have had an amazing time with them. Even more special moments have been shared each day….when wanted I have snuggled the boys and napped with them; it’s the moments of one hugging me or falling asleep on my shoulder as the other reaches out to hold my hand that I can’t trade for anything. It’s the little arts and crafts I have done with them that gets many “Thanks Mommy – this is so cool.” It’s all the little hugs between the boys and the fights that I have witnessed and broken up. Plus all the family time with the hubby when he comes home from work or has the day off.
It’s all these moments that I look forward to all year. You might ask, you don’t get these moments during the year when you work? I do…but I don’t have as clear of a mind as I do now – just focusing on them! During the school year, I look forward to picking up the boys from daycare and being greeted with running hugs and squeals! Don’t get me wrong, I love my job – but I love my boys and family more.
So this summer has been a hiatus from everything except the pure enjoyment of my boys and family.
I don’t need to say this, but I am so lucky to have a husband and daddy of the boys who is such an amazing role model for the boys. He is truly our hero! It was extremely special this week that we were able to attend his awards ceremony at work, minus Cal. The boys were sick, but CJ insisted on going even though he wasn’t feeling good. Cal’s fever had spiked again so he stayed at home with my parents. (Thanks so much for all they do for us!) CJ and I were super excited to see Daddy honored for what he does. Neal received recognition for his military service and also received a Life Saving award, for the same fire he pulled the man out of back this past winter He is our hero!!! It was also featured in the Norwich Bulletin (link to article and link to video).
Mamabargains.com recently had Kooleez freezer pop insulators for sale. With the boys love of frozen yogurt and freezer pops that I constantly wrap in paper towels, I figured it was well worth trying so I bought some to have. They came in the mail the other day and I was so excited to try them!!! When I opened the bag, the boys loved their colors!!! We then pulled out a frozen yogurt and put the Kooleez to work!! The boys loved them and the purchase was well worth it! I am glad I purchased them for our house and Mimi’s and two for the diaper bag to take places with us!
This weekend finally started feeling like summer….dinners outside, hotdogs and hamburgers, slip n slide for the boys courtesy my Dad, scooters rides, sparklers, and pure fun with the boys and the family. We also bought all the plants for the garden, yes I know I am a little behind on this but we’ve been busy!!!
Needless to say, I can’t wait to be a stay at home mom (SAHM)!!! I look forward to this all year and am very fortunate that I am a teacher, where I can still work and have my career but also reap the benefits and joy of being a SAHM for a few months out of the year. I have to give all the moms credit because I think I’d go insane doing it full time!!! You mom’s are brave!!! Now I say, two more weeks of work and bring on the SAHM title!!!!!
The past few weeks in my home had been rather contaminated! It started with the yucky chest coughs….then moved to double ear infections with both the boys and a sinus infection with myself. Even though we were all on antibiotics, the nasty thick chest cough wouldn’t ease up at all. It was still waking the boys up at night out of a deep sleep. Cranky boys made a cranky mommy. I was out of options and not sure what else to do. Two older veteran moms/grandmas recommended rubbing Vicks on the boys feet at night and covering their feet with socks. I thought it was far fetched, but with nothing else to do, I figured I’d give it a shot. I had Baby Vicks in the medicine cabinet, so I pulled it out while they were sleeping rubbed in on their feet and covered their feet with socks. To much of my surprise, they stopped coughing and didn’t cough throughout the night. It was the first good nights sleep they had in a few nights. So I did it again for the next few nights, which was probably almost a week and they boys slept through the nights without coughing! Just long enough for the coughs to go away. This old wives tale/theory works!!! I’d definitely recommend it to any mom’s in need of the help to ease a cough!!!! Thanks to those amazing veteran moms for sharing this. I truly value all of the experiences other moms share!!!!
